At Photokina 2004 in Cologne, Germany the Leica Digital Modul R was introduced. The DMR is a replacement back that fits on the Leica R8 and R9 camera bodies and allows Leica lens back to 1965 to be used with the module. The DMR houses a Kodak CCD sensors 3876 x 2584 pixels with an active area of 26.4 x 17.6mm.

I was fortunately able to attend the first Leica Akademie held in the USA.

Below are three sample pictures taken with the Digital R that were just randomly taken outside the meeting place with no intent for photo excellence or composition.
This will give some idea what the camera is capable of in a point and shoot situation on a cloudy day with fading light. snap snap snap.....
